Adobe Flash Player – Board To Death

In my first year of university, my Bachelor of Multimedia, our Introduction to Multimedia class was asked to create a game entirely in Adobe Flash Player. For the first few weeks we learned the basics of flash as well as the basics of actionscript, and then we were allowed to do what we wanted as long as it was educational. I teamed up with my good friend Joel Molloy to make and complete what would become a game that was given as an example for future students. It was educational, had action, cinematics and was made entirely using Flash, Photoshop and our basic skills learned from previous work.

I created all the pictures and animations you see on screen, and I loved doing it. It was around this time I discovered I love doing animations and modelling so much. Joel was designated actionscript writer for most, if not all of the program, which I am very thankful for. Joel also did the level design for each level, so together we worked very well.

The story is basic – the character has to find the right answer to the question in the corner of the screen, and then if correct they can continue to an epic boss battle. All animated by me, with sounds included, I was quite proud of my contributions to the game. Some screenshots below will give a rough idea of the game, with a small insight into the boss battles. To create the fights, I separated pictures I found off the internet using Photoshop, and then animated them all in Flash, frame by frame. It was a long but exciting process, and it was all worth it, as when we presented it to the moderators, they seemed dumbfounded that neither of us had experience with the program before making this game.
